Learn about Space Weathering on Mercury or Element Maps of the Moon
Explore the Solar System and get involved with NASA missions in the new remote sensing research line at FUP! This is an opportunity for students to conduct original research using data from NASA spacecraft sent to explore other bodies in our solar system. Initially students will work on one of two projects: Space Weathering on Mercury and Element Maps of the Moon.
No prior knowledge of planetary science is required, though students should have a solid background in physics, mathematics through linear algebra, and computer programming. Students lacking one of these qualifications may still be able to participate and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Typical research tasks include: examining planetary images, image processing, data analysis, and computer programing. Depending of the level of involvement students may have opportunities to present their work at national conferences or co-author a peer-reviewed scientific journal article.
Two remote sensing courses will be offered next semester – one for each research project. These courses will teach the background material required to conduct research, interpret the results, and understand the context and importance of the work you will be doing. Student researchers will be expected to devote 4-6 hours per week to research in addition to the remote sensing coursework.
All instruction and research will be conducted in English. English proficiency is not required but students must be committed to improving their English. English is the international language of scholarly communication and therefore learning to communicate in English is an important skill.
Research will be supervised by Miriam Riner. She holds a PhD in Planetary Science from Arizona State University and has been conducting NASA funded research for 12 years.
Grupo de trabajo interesado en procesos en los que se fortalezcan distintas funciones cognitivas a través de la mediación de las TIC. Incluye desarrollo de software para soluciones pedagógicas especiales, estudio del impacto de las TIC en la cognición y en las dinámicas sociales.
Con interés en el desarrollo de soluciones logísticas, educativas, administrativas y organizacionales por medio del uso de las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación, especialmente en procesos pedagógicos.
